An Unexpected Encounter (Ryu)

It was a calm, peaceful night. The sky was clear and the moon shone bright. The start flickered in the velvety darkness of the night sky. Against the midnight blue of the sky, stood the silhouette of the amusement park. It was a grand sight indeed, with all its colors and lights. It was far different from what the young vampire was accustomed to, but then again today seemed to be a day for new things. Today, she went with a more casual look and even had decided to walk to the amusement park. It wasn't too far from her home and would be good for her instead of taking the carriage like usual. She had even found a way to sneak out without having Ichiru follow her, but sooner or later someone would notice her absence and come looking. Until then, she intended to enjoy her little bit of freedom.

Approaching the park, she gazed up at it in awe. It was such a wonderful looking place. Full of games and rides and so many things to do. She smiled faintly and entered the park. Awestruck with her surroundings, she wasn't quite paying attention as she walked and ended up walking into someone. It had been surprising and instantly snapped her back into reality when she fell back. "I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention." Her words were soft and presented with a matching smile as she got back to her feet. She brushed herself off quickly, making a quick mental note to have the outfit cleaned when she returned home. After brushing a misplaced strand of silver hair out of her face, she looked at the figure before her and waited patiently for some sort of response.

It was another typical night for Ryuji Tanaka. Wake up when the sun was down, put on clean clothes (a white v neck shirt and some dark jeans) and then open the theme park for vampires to enjoy. Same shit, different day basically. Grabbing his keys, he decided to make his rounds, which wouldn't take too long to do.

Even though it seemed like there wasn't a huge crowd at the gates, Ryu knew more would come later. Where else was a vampire to go? He had no idea. Shoving his keys into his pocket, a bored yawn escaped his mouth as he began to walk around aimlessly.

Obviously by the look on Ryu's face, he was bored and wasn't paying much attention. By now he could walk around the park and not really get lost. He knew the place like the back of his hand, then again he had been living at the park since he was born. It was only natural of him to know the place extremely well.

Feeling somebody bump into him, Ryu blinked, letting the whole thing kind of sink into him for a minute. Looking at the girl on the ground, there was one obvious fact; she was a vampire. Looking down at the girl, who looked like she was still in school, he sighed quietly and offered a hand out for her. The last thing he wanted was somebody screaming at him because he didn't offer to help them up. "It's fine." he said after a minute. "I wasn't really paying much attention either." he admitted to her. Everybody, human and vampire, had one of those days where their mind was some place else. It just happened to strike two vampires at once.

Maria accepted his offer to help her up, even though she really didn't need the help. It was a kind offer and it would have been considered rather rude if she'd have turned him down. Standing up with help from her mysterious new acquaintance, she held her grip on his hand and pulled him a little closer. A curiously, childish smile appeared on her face as she tried to look in his eyes. "You're devolving aren't you?" She asked, before realizing how personal the question was. "I've never met one of your kind before. What's it like?" It was after that last question of hers when she realized what she had just said and she let go of his hand quickly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you or anything. I was just wondering, that's all."

She looked at him apologetically, the look utterly sincere with a hint of shock at her own foolishness. Her gaze fell to the ground as she laced her fingers together. The silence after she had spoken, started getting tense as a few passing vampires glanced their way. Its not like she had intended to ask something so personal and she definitely hadn't intended to ask so loudly either. She kept her gaze fixed on her shoes, only letting her eyes flicker over to him every so often.

It usually took a bit more before Maria regretted doing something and it most certainly only happened around the people with status or some sort of power in this world. It only took a few moments of getting lost in her own thoughts before she realized she still looked like a fool in front of Ryu. It didn't bother her much except for the fact it looked bad on her family, but then again they weren't here right now. Were they?

A faint smile played across Maria's lips, giving her the innocent appearance everyone was familiar with. "Would you mind showing me around? I've never been to a place like this." It was a simple little question, but either way she'd find a way around. If he chose to help her, things would be easier but nothing was ever that easy.

'You're devolving aren't you?'
That was one of the most odd and weirdest things Ryuji had ever heard in all of his time being a vampire, which wasn't much. If this was one of the first weird things he was going to hear throughout his new life, he might as well prepare himself for next time. To be honest, he had no idea how to react to it. It was just so out of the blue that it actually shocked him. But since she asked, he might as well answer her question.

Scratching his head some, Ryu tried to figure out a way to word how it felt. "Take being hungry all of the time and times that by like a thousand or so. And take being totally confused and lost and times that by about a million and then add trying to live night to night as if nothing ever happened." he explained to her.

Watching her let go of his arm, Ryu shook his head some. Girls always confused him. They'd say stuff but never say what was truly on their mind and then tried to blame stuff on him or the other way around. He generally tried to avoid being close to people. And it worked so far. Yes he was a little lonely but he learned to live with it.

Listening to her question on if he would show her around, Ryu gave a small nod. "Sure" he told her. Now the only part was where to start. His thoughts were broken when the girl had said that she had never been to the theme park before and he raised an eyebrow at her. "Really?" he questioned.

When he agreed to show her around, she felt ecstatic. She was incredibly happy he had agreed. It would make her time here so much easier and so much more amusing. Before she could stop herself, she hugged Ryu tightly, "Awwww. Thank you!" It was a friendly, spur of the moment hug that appeared to be fueled by her sudden happiness. Normally, just a random hug would have been enough to confuse someone but she wasn't done there. This night was only beginning to get fun and by the time daybreak came around, it would be a night to remember. For her at least.

Maybe she was asking for trouble with her innocent little smile and her even more innocent little attitude. It was like a lamb before a lion, only the roles weren't what one would expect. After embracing Ryu in a quick hug, she backed off and smiled lightly. Her right hand hiding her smile just ever so slightly in a mysteriously playful manner. It was a natural habit of hers to hide her smile, especially in moments like this.

Turning her back to him, she flipped her long silvery hair and looked around at the passing people as they explored the park. "Where do you think we should start? This place looks enormous!" she glanced over her shoulder at him and asked yet another question in the curious little tone she had already used on him a few times, "Is this place open all the time?"

Something happened to the poor little theme park owner that he would never have expected to happen. He was attacked. By a hug. That was probably a lovely site; a big tall guy being attacked in a hug by a small teenage girl. Ryuji would probably never hear the end of that, from anybody. Tonight seemed like it was going to drag on forever.

Once he was free from the hug, Ryu took a deep breath, feeling air reach his lungs. Looking over, he just shook his head. He had a feeling that she would be the death of him, if he was mortal at least. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he shrugged his shoulders at her question. "That depends on what you love." he told her.

"We have Queensland over there" Ryu said, removing his right hand from his pocket and pointed at an old Gothic styled castle. "You can enjoy tea over there, though we don't have a vampire Hatter. And there are some water rides, where you just float along in a boat." he said, naming a few of the attractions.

"The park does close for one hour, to give the day time workers time to go home. And then I open it up for people of the night time. So yes."

"Why don't you surprise me and show me your favorite place here or a place you really like?" She asked, flashing him a little half smile. She did notice that he didn't seem to be having much fun and his exasperated sigh didn't escape her either. It wasn't fair for all the visitors to be the only ones having fun. It only took that one little thought before a plan formulated in her mind. He needed to have fun. Learn to be a kid again. Learn to smile. And she was going to be the one to teach him. It was always best to start with something simple and if what he said was true, then he owned this place and no amusement park ever amused anyone unless it was able to amuse its owner as well.

She twirled a strand of her silver locks between her fingers as she thought about what to do. It was a simple little idea but in the end could only do more good than harm, maybe. He was going to have fun and she'd be damned if he didn't. As long as no one she knew personally ran into them, they should be fine. Especially since someone like Ichiru would explode about how dangerous it was to leave the house without him, blah blah blah and all that nonsense. Maybe she'd even try to help the poor unfortunate devolving vampire and give him some idea how not to die. Maybe. Her helping was conditional of course. What better way to have fun than to see the look on someone's face after they had a great night and then got told some very serious news.

Something he liked. Well that was a little hard for Ryu to pick just on the spot. Being practically raised in the park, he loved just about all of it. Standing there in deep thought, an idea came to Ryuji's mind. "Alright then" he said to her and grabbed her hand. "Follow me" he told her.

Even though the walk to the area seemed pretty long, to Ryu it only seemed like they took a few steps and where there automatically. Standing in front of the castle he had mentioned to her earlier, Ryu let go of her hand. "This is my favorite place out of the whole park" he told her. She had asked and he had answered her question.

"But what I like more is what is inside the castle." Ryu added, holding up a key-ring. Grabbing the correct ring, he unlocked and pushed open the door. The castle was empty, but not covered in dust like one would expect it to be, more liked it was lived in. "This is my favorite place." he told her, placing his key-ring onto the belt-loop of his pants. Holding the door open, he ran his fingers through his hair, waiting for her to at least look around inside of the castle.

She ran along as Ryu pulled her in the direction of the towering castle he had mentioned just moments ago. It was a decently long walk to where they were headed but the scenery was enough to distract Maria from noticing the distance. Her eyes wandered, glancing at each attraction they passed. Somehow just being here made her feel like a little kid. It made her feel like having a good time, no matter what. She smiled faintly as they came to a stop before the castle. To her, the castle looked like it was from a fairy tale. It was awe inspiring to be near such a grand place but looking at the outside gave her a hint of sadness as she wondered slightly what the inside of the castle looked like.

Almost as if he had read her mind, Ryu's next words caught her attention quickly as he held up a keyring. He easily picked out a single key from the ring and opened the door wide. Ryu held the door open for her, almost gentleman-like and that alone made her flash him one of her dazzling and somewhat mysterious smiles, half hidden by her hand. Her gaze slid from Ryu and quickly began to examine the inside of the castle. Taking a step towards the door she let storm grey gaze fall back to Ryu. "Are you sure its ok to go in?" Her words were full of curiosity as she spoke. She raised a hand and set it on the door, letting it brush along and eventually falling to her side as she took a few steps inside the castle.

The first thing she noticed was that the castle had a homey feel to it. Like it wasn't just some sort of amazing prop but also someone's home. A bubble of sheer glee reached her surface and escaped in an excited giggle. She turned back to look at the gentleman who so kindly had escorted her, her hair flowing through the air like silk as she moved. There was a mysterious air about the young silver haired vampire that was evident to even the most unperceptive of people. Her expression was a careful mask that not even a Hunter would be able to see through unless they knew her well. She smiled politely at Ryu before speaking, "Can you show me around? I'd very much like to see how truly marvelous this place is." Such sincere sounding words from such an innocent looking child. Surely nothing could go wrong but it was that ominous feeling of something about to happen that would ensnare Ryu as his gaze met her own.

Notes: I am so sorry about taking so long. IRL stuff decided to kill me and I promise I won't AFK on you again. Hope the post is ok. I didn't add much detail on the castle since I was hoping Ryu would show her around so she can get a general idea of the place =D
