Fading Stars; The End Is Near (Kasumi)

The night was calm and cool and the smell of fire seemed to consume the air of the night sky. It was a perfect fall night for a bonfire and that was exactly where many of the students in the school had found themselves. It wasn’t every night that they could all relax and hang out together after all, so many students took advantage of this moment. One of those students just so happened to be Mattaru Ichinose. He found himself going from girl to girl keeping them company to keep his popularity afloat. He was very happy with tonight and decided that he would take it to his advantage.

He had already managed to get out a girl’s phone number from her and her blood type too! How yummy! Of course, she was clueless as to why he asked, but he found himself coming up with something cliché to get the girl to find it adorable. He would grin and tell her that they were perfectly compatible with one another because they shared blood types that went together or some mushy words that would make a girls heart flutter. It was something that he enjoyed and didn’t mind doing. It was a way that he kept his happiness around the academy. He kept things very lively and flamboyant. Of course, he loved to be different and interesting after all.

He cuddled down next to a giggling girl and found his other side being tugged by another from the Day Class. It was a shame that the Night Class girl’s weren’t too interested in him like the Day Class girls. It was rather lonely normally for him. He didn’t have girl’s from the Night Class cuddling him. It just wasn’t fair. It was a pity that he couldn’t turn one of these cute girl’s into a vampire. Even if he did have that power, he knew very well how against it Kaname would be and he’d be scolded and probably banned from the school. He didn’t want to go back home, so he knew that he had to be careful of the rules. Kaname seemed to be more forgiving of the Night Class so he could slide by very easily; especially since he was an old friend.

His gaze flicked around for fellow students of the Night Class. It seemed a lot of them were off doing their own things or avoiding the Day Class students. Kaname’s circle of friends seemed to be around and nearby, but other than that it seemed to be pretty much filled with humans. They were very clingy and at times annoying, but he found it to be adorable. It was rather nice to have someone cling to you and beg you to stay by their side. He liked to tease the Day Class girl’s and whisper things into their ears. He happened to get a lot of popularity that way and he loved every moment of it!

As time grew on he had found himself moving from person to person after he got bored with some of the girl’s that were there. Maybe it was better that he could have space from them and that they weren’t vampires. A lot of them didn’t want to give him personal space. He decided to take a walk a little away from the beach when a familiar scent caught his interest. It was from a pure blood student who didn’t get too much attention at the school, but he had taken the time to note all the pure bloods in his mind who were at the school. He was quite interested because it seemed that she was with another human student. It was rather odd since he didn’t sense anyone else with them and he had noticed them walking away together at some point and were probably talking. It would be bad if a Day Class guy actually got the courage to try and force themselves on a pure blood.

Kaname would be furious though if things got out of hand. He had seen them walk away, so he figured it would be blamed on him if something happened. Somehow it ended up being your responsibility if you saw something suspicious and didn’t act on it. So, he decided to follow carefully after and keep his distance. It was interesting and amusing to him after all, so he didn’t really mind!

It seemed like both the night and day students were all mingling together but that made it all the harder for Kasumi to stand. Though she did enjoy the idea of both races in harmony, her kind still needed the humans in order to survive. You can't force a tiger to be friends with a zebra especially if the tiger's been starved ever since arriving at the dreaded school called Cross Academy. It didn't take long for Kasumi to pick out someone else who'd been avoiding others and she easily approached him. With kind words and a gentle face, she convinced the boy to follow her. Her usual disposition was what everyone saw even if the sound of the boy's blood rushing through his veins were mildly distracting.

Not being in the spotlight at the school had worked to her advantage. No one wanted to harass her and she was never suspected of being the pureblood that she is. But with this Day Class student walking beside her, she'd feel better. Her head wouldn't ache as much and she'd be able to control herself better. She smiled faintly, brushing a strand of her blonde hair out of her face. Honestly, she had never thought she'd be able to lure one away from the herd. What an excellent surprise! But hopefully she hadn't been seen by anyone. Her actions would raise a lot of suspicion.

The pair walked casually, unaware that they were being followed since the sea breeze blew downwind, in their stalker's favor. It took only a few moments before they disappeared from the sight of the other students and hopefully out of range for what was about to happen. After a few more minutes the pair sat down on the sand looking up at the stars, the few words that passed between them hushed and secretive, only leading to more assumptions should their stalker be watching.

Mattaru had followed after them casually keeping his hands in the pockets of his jeans. He wore a dark purple hoodie that helped him to blend a little better with his surroundings since it was dark. His crimson gaze though did not want to leave the pair. It was just too weird and suspicious when a Night Class student would walk away with a Day Class student alone. It just didn’t seem right! He had never seen something like that before…Except when it came to Kaname and Yuuki; but Yuuki always snuck away. She was just a little magnet for trouble. He adored her thought for her boldness and bravery. Any other girl who knew about the Night Class being vampires would probably find themselves being terrified.

It was a little frustrating though that he couldn’t find the time to be around other girl’s at the school except when it came to events. Most of the females in the Night Class either liked Kaname or were a little too hard-edged for his liking. He didn’t like their attitudes. They could be rather cruel at times towards him and it just put a huge damper on his fun! They all were a little too serious for him. Why couldn’t the Night Class girl’s be super cute and adorable like Day Class girl’s.

He would never understand. Females were very confusing and a huge mystery to him. Sometimes, he just felt like giving up entirely on women altogether. There were adorable guy’s in the Night Class that he secretly kept his eye on. Of course, they would probably find him as really weird. He didn’t want to creepy anyone out, so he just kept playing off the image that he was some sort of womanizer. It was better that way because people wouldn’t be so judgmental of him for being bi.

He followed quietly and kept himself near trees when he could so he’d have something to hide behind or possibly in if the need came. He didn’t think that a pureblood would let their guard down too easily, so he was quite prepared for her reactions. His gaze narrowed when he watched them take a place in the sand and get close. It didn’t seem like flirting… Was it some secret relationship kind of thing? Maybe a fall fling? Or was it something scandalous! That would definitely be some interesting gossip and news to have on someone. He could probably use it for his own gain in the future even! He really liked that idea, so he figured that he would continue to watch not thinking that there would be any harm from this situation. It didn’t look like she was planning to harm the boy, but he wondered why she took the time to try and lure him out here away from everyone else. He wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to do, so he was very wary of the girl and kept his focus on her.

He sighed lightly to himself and shook his head. Man, pure bloods were sure hard to read. He never really knew what they wanted. They could be so bi-polar! Take Kaname for example, he would go around and smash people’s fun some day’s and other day’s he just wouldn’t seem to care. It was funny how he would let Aidou collect stuff that he destroyed and then would eventually smash the male’s little piece of happiness that he had at the school. Of course, Mattaru didn’t let Kaname have many chances to do that to him. If that were to happen to him, he would find himself getting upset and would probably end up having to go back home.

He hated the fact that everyone was always on Kaname’s side sometimes. It was understandable because Kaname was pretty powerful, but he didn’t always understand so it was quite frustrating to him. He bit his lip lightly and watched the scene and took a few moments here and there to glance at the starry sky. It was nice for a night, but because of the events going on he felt a little too on edge to let himself enjoy this night for right now. He absolutely had to figure out what was going on or he wouldn’t let himself rest peacefully!

Looking up at the star filled sky brought back a memory of something she had drawn. It was something that had come to her in a dream and remained the very thing that caused her to feel dread deep inside her heart. The scene of a star filled sky at the beach had been the very place she had seen herself die. Just thinking about that very sketch sent shivers up her spine. Even now her usually ice blue gaze was bleeding into the crimson that most vampires were known for having either when they used their powers or were fighting their starving nature. Right this moment, that very scene she had sketched all those years ago returned to her, only stronger but this time something was different. Something felt absolute this time.

She closed her eyes and let a tear fall, tracing the planes of her face before dropping. Tonight was the beginning of the end. That much, she knew. There was a risk of death should someone see her. With so many regrets and so many lives on her own hands, it wouldn't exactly be the end. If anything, it would be salvation for a damned being. Opening her eyes once again, she let her gaze fall on the ocean before her and considered the actions she was about to take. Breathing the salt air deeply, she smiled sadly and whispered two words to herself.

"No regrets."

After reminding herself of what she'd promised herself years ago, she turned to look at the human beside her and caught the glimpse of a shadow that shouldn't be there. Someone had followed her. Now, things could fall one of two ways. Hopefully they would fall in her favor but it was time that would tell. Letting her eyes flicker to the stalker in the shadows, she smiled faintly, trying to make sure they knew she had seen them. Resting a hand on the side of her companions face, she directed his attention to herself and pulled him into a soft kiss on the lips. It was short lived, as it lasted just a moment before she broke it and let her lips trace the line of the human's jaw and down the side of his neck.

Pressing her lips against the human's pulse, she let her eyes once again flicker to the shadows as she let her fangs sink into the poor boy's neck. Once her fangs had broken the skin, the scent of blood would make itself known to the one who had so silently stalked them just before the direction of the breeze would change to let the blonde know her stalker was a vampire. Savoring the taste of fresh blood, a single thought crossed her mind.

Why not make a show of this and draw the little stalker closer?

She could always share but not this time. This time, the human was hers. Breaking her connection with the human, she gently licked the site of the bite mark and wiped away the single drop of blood on her lips. Her gaze was fixed on the figure cloaked in shadows, even as she wrapped her arms around this lovely little human. Keeping her gaze on the darkness that remained untouched by the silver light of the moon, she let a faint smile touch her lips as a sort of taunt for her naive little stalker.

Mattaru had been watching from the shadows with a bad feeling and a strange curiosity eating at him. He had been tempted to break it up much sooner, but if it simply wasn’t what he thought it was then he would have just looked like a jerk who was trying to break up some fun. It was still strange to him how a pure blood from the Night Class was being so overly friendly and open it seemed with a Day Class boy. It just didn’t seem right and none of the pieces lined up to him. He didn’t like it at all.

He wondered what Kaname would think of all of this. He wondered also if Kaname knew and had planned for this to happen. It was definitely like Kaname to plan this out in advance. He had remembered when they were younger when he stumbled upon Kaname playing with chess pieces. Kaname had explained to him innocently that each piece represented a person in his game and they were all pawns to be moved around to protect the pieces that were the most important. He wouldn’t be surprised if Kaname had been prepared for this.

Kaname was a cruel kind of person in a sense. Mattaru knew that the male could be kind and gave a humble appearance to other people and vampires. However, from what he did know about Kaname that others did not, it seemed that he knew how corrupt Kaname could be and think. You couldn’t get into his head easily, so you honestly had to know Kaname growing up in order to figure him out. Of course, Mattaru didn’t like surrounding himself with Kaname too much or for that long because he found his personality a damper and quite sickening. He didn’t like it when people used others for pawns and even at this moment now he felt as though Kaname probably planned for this. Was he just a pawn in the males own little twisted game? Did Kaname plan for this and for Mattaru to follow? Did he want Mattaru to be trapped in this web?

He wasn’t quite sure what role he was playing, but he was sure that it wasn’t going to be a fun one in the long run. He could tell from the vibes that he was getting that something very wrong was going to happen. When it seemed like she had noticed a presence, his presence, he found himself growing tense and a bit hesitant. But, what she did next caught him completely and totally off guard! Was he watching something scandalous going on!? A human and pure blood relationship!? How ridiculous! Sure, he knew you couldn’t control who you fell in love with, but he was also very wary himself on relationships between a human and a pure blood. Those kinds of relationships were what the hunter’s association usually targeted and that would bring nothing but bitterness and sadness. He didn’t understand why anyone would knowingly do that to themselves.

After he had observed the kiss he watched her move on to something else and that was when he was about to jump out from the shadows and let out a shout to probably startle them. However, he had stopped dead in his tracks as the scent of blood filled his nose. At that moment his red gaze seemed to darken and shine with hunger. It had always done that when it came to human blood. He would become hungry for it and would have a hard time getting himself to get back into control. It was funny how people expected him to have more control because he was an aristocrat of high standing. Ironically, he wasn’t any different from a regular aristocrat or even a hungry pure blood for that matter.

He wondered as he tried to fight his thoughts of hunger is she was just tempting him. It was hard to resist, but he had found himself managing to hold himself back. He found himself leaving the shadows and weakly walking towards the scene. He ached with hunger for human blood, but he knew very well that it was wrong. He knew that if he took blood from a student then it would be all over for him. But, he had to stop this pure blood now. She had already bitten the boy, so it was far too late for him now. It was up to Mattaru to bring an end to this and the pure blood. His crimson gaze flashed intensely as he spoke out to the girl now. “Yo… Biting students isn’t allowed. I’m sure you know that as a pure blood.” He felt his hands tighten into fists now as he tried to gain control of himself. The scent of the blood seemed to take over him, but he kept himself in place. “Being a pure blood is no exception to the rules… I’m sure you know what you’ve done… You should know your place.”

At this point, he felt his hands trembling a bit and he felt his fangs sink into his lips now as he kept trying to fight his urges and hunger. It was so painful, but he knew that if he bit into the student too that he would be just as guilty. He had to do something or act fast if he wanted to keep himself intact and sane. The question in the end would be what could he possibly do to put an end to this and fix things!?
