Tonight had already started off as annoying. Zero Kiryuu sat in the library working on some of his homework that was due for class the next day. It was absolutely irritating. Of course, no one knew that he was there working on that in particular since he was supposed to be on duty making sure that no one got out of line. However, he managed to sneak off and convince Yuuki that he was going to patrol and look after the library for a little while. It was a good enough excuse since it needed to be checked out as well. People liked to hide around there in the silence to snap picture’s when they got a chance at student’s studying, but with him there it seemed to be a bit easier to manage things.
The girls of the Day Class knew better than to mess with Zero or to tick him off. Many of them actually seemed to be quite terrified. He preferred things to always be in order, and if you crossed that boundary of order he wouldn’t let you live it down. It kept the students in check that he had to look after, while Yuuki always had seemed to struggle with the aspect of maintaining order. The students at the academy seemed to walk all over her as though what she said didn’t matter. He was always watching in case things got bad enough for him to step in. It was something that he simply needed to do to protect her. She was too kind to be treated poorly.
He sat at a table with a few papers of homework spread out on it and he let his fingers lightly tap the table as he seemed to think about the answers that he would put down. It wasn’t like it was very difficult for him. He had learned this a while ago in class and it was just review. Normally, Zero found himself studying to get ahead of the class in order to stay on top or to help Yuuki if she had a question on something. In the long run, she just seemed to be a hopeless mess when it came to answering questions on homework and tests as well. Sometimes, Zero felt that he couldn’t really do anything for the optimistic girl since he couldn’t even help her very well with getting a better grade.
In the long run, the class average was pulled down and some of the students got upset with her because their class always ended up being last and having to set up things for events that went on at the school. Of course, after they finished setting up the students could join the party as well, so Zero didn’t really understand why they got so upset. It was just a little bit of hard work and effort. He figured that they would at least be competent enough to do that. If not, then he would just be disgusted completely with humanity altogether.
He turned a page of the textbook and sighed slightly. It was too quiet, but it was nice because of how peaceful it was. The Night Class students for the most part were in class, but there were always the few who decided to skip class or that didn’t have class and they would hang around campus or stay in the building where it seemed harder for the Day Class students to get their pictures. It was smart in Zero’s mind that many of them chose to stay indoors. On occasion, he would notice a Night Class student slip by casually to get a book out for class, or to check something out to read at their leisure. However, it seemed all too sudden that they would instantly move away from him as well. He did stick out like a sore thumb with the Day Class uniform on, but even more so he had his disciplinary committee arm band on as well that pushed people away from him as well.
If you really thought about it, Zero didn’t mind that. It was better if the vampires of the school didn’t start up a conversation with him. He personally didn’t want anything to do with them. It was to his misfortune that he had to be around them constantly and watch over them to keep them out of trouble and away from the students of the Day Class. It was normally both classes’ faults when they had a run in. Usually, a girl from Day Class would hurt her hands which would draw in some of the Night Class students. It was blood that seemed to draw the beasts in human form to a human who was injured. It was sickening.
It was because he hated that behavior so much, he would do his best to fight off every urge for blood that would gnaw at him. He didn’t want to hurt anyone, nor did he want to prove even more so that he was slowly becoming a monster himself. He hated himself. He cursed himself. He wished that he could change his fate more than anything, but in all reality there was nothing that he could do. So, as a result, he isolated himself from everyone and everything. No one could get into his mind, and no one could get close to him. It was the safest way to keep everyone, including himself safe.
